This new role involves finding ways to interest and engage the public (rather than health professionals or psychologists) in Health Psychology and the work of the DHP. Current examples of public engagement include leaflets and posters explaining ‘What is Health Psychology?’ to 14-18 year olds and sending press releases to the media about current Health Psychology research. Over the coming year, I hope to develop the role to include the use of new media technologies and presence at science and community festivals.

I work at the Centre for Appearance Research at UWE leading a strand of research developing and evaluating interventions to foster psychosocial adjustment in people with disfigurements. This role involves working closely with service users, lay led charities and a range of health care professionals such as clinical psychologists, surgeons, nurses and GPs. I am interested in clinical and health psychology as I spent much of my early career working in NHS primary and secondary care mental health services and as a researcher with patients with eating disorders at Oxford University. I also teach on a number of modules on the MSc course at UWE and assist in project supervision. I have recently completed the Stage 2 training course at UWE.
