I am part of the Postgraduate subcommittee of the DHP (see www… for a description of what the subcommittee does.) My role within the committee is mainly to liase between PsyPAG and the DHP, allowing faster (and wider) dissemination of information to the postgraduate community through the various outlets of PsyPAG. I also assist in organising DHP workshops for health psychology postgraduates.
PhD Researcher
My primary research interest is health psychology, with particular emphasis on applying cognitive ideas (and methodology) to health theory and intervention. For example, my PhD involves examination of attentional processes towards the newly released UK graphic warning labels on cigarette packaging. Using an eye tracking approach, I am attempting to assess whether inclusion of graphic images has any beneficial effects over and above previous black and white "text-only" warnings. Following on from this, I aim to assess how this is related to the cognitive processes theorised to be involved in persuasion. Another of my primary involves studying the placebo effect in healthy individuals, using an experimental methodology. I believe that a full understanding of the placebo effect could have vast implications for modern medicine.
