P&L Chair

Chair of DHP Publicity and Liaison Sub-Committee - Dr. Angel Marie Chater

Committee Role

As Chair of the P&L Sub-Committee it is my role to oversee the management and co-ordination of the HPU, the DHP website, the DHP announcements list, the DHP Newsletter, the Consultation and Specialist Knowledge List, media output and public engagement. I then feedback to the main DHP committee agreed aims for these areas and ensure that these are followed through. As one of two web-managers, I update the website where appropriate. During the run-up to the conference, I co-ordinate the selection of abstracts that may be of interest to the press and work with a small team and the BPS to turn these into press releases. At the conference, I would then co-ordinate media interviews with authors.

Job title at place of work:

Senior Lecturer in Health Psychology at University of Bedfordshire

I am the programme manager of a BSc in Health Psychology and the deputy course director of an MSc in Health Psychology. The units I co-ordinate are in areas such as Public Health, Applied Health Psychology and Professional Skills for Health Psychologists. My research interests include health promotion, disease prevention and behaviour change interventions, particularly with children, and in weight management and addiction. I am supervising a number of PhD and masters students in these areas, to include those developing interactive virtual world games to reduce alcohol misuse in adolescents, a school-based intervention package to enhance physical activity with young people and a weight management programme for children with special needs. Drawing on my experience as a Health Psychologist in Specialist Obesity Services, our most recent weight reduction intervention, using Motivational Interviewing and Implementation Intentions, has yielded significant weight loss results.
