Deputy Chair - Professor Stan Newman

Committee role:

As deputy chair will pay a supportive role to the chair and aspects of the DHP Executive functions and specifically in relation to Statutory regulation.

Professor of Health Psychology & Hon Consultant UCLH, Director Unit of Behavioural Medicine

Runs the UCL MSc in Health psychology course. Research focus is on the psychological and social issues of chronic illness and its treatment. He has developed and evaluated psychosocial interventions for patients with heart failure, coronary heart disease, diabetes, informal carers and a range of other conditions. He has a specific research focus on telehealth and telecare and their role in chronic conditions and the frail elderly. He leads the evaluation team of the Whole System Demonstrator Project evaluating telehealth and telecare for DH. He also has a specialist research interests on the impact of surgery on the brain and he and his group have performed a series of studies examining interventions to reduce the impact of surgery on patients.
