Being Chair of the DHP involves ensuring that the Division is meeting its aims and objectives, in line with its current strategy and priorities. I represent the Division and its members, for example on BPS boards, committees and policy consultations and report to DHP members at the AGM. I oversee the running of the DHP committee by chairing our committee meetings and working closely with all committee members, in particular the executive committee (Deputy Chair, Chair Elect and Secretary) and the chairs of the sub-committees. I am always pleased for any DHP member to contact me regarding any aspect of the Division’s work.
Reader in Health Psychology and Co-Director, Centre for Appearance Research at UWE, Bristol
My research interests focus on psychosocial aspects of appearance, in particular those in relation to visible difference (disfigurement). Much of my research centres around changes to appearance associated with the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, for example decision making about breast reconstruction after mastectomy, experiences of chemotherapy and changes to appearance due to cancer treatment during adolescence. I am interested in individuals’ experiences of their appearance, provision of care and interventions.
