Can you provide any advice on study choices?
We are unable to offer advice regarding specific courses. You should consult the British Psychological Society for the most up-to-date list of accredited Stage one and Stage Two courses. More detail on our website on training in health psychology can be found here.
Where can I search for funding for courses?
The DHP is often contacted for advice regarding funding for courses and sympathises with the difficult financial situations of many students, however we are unable to offer any funding for courses.
Some masters courses have special bursary arrangements and they will know where previous students may have gained funding from. To investigate this you should contact the Course Director of the course to which you are applying.
Alternatively you could search for funding from charities, some offer grants for students if you meet their eligibility criteria, good places to start are Directgov or Support4Learning. Both of these sties have huge amounts of advice regarding funding and future study.
There are more opportunities for PhD funding and we post details for these on our website here. This is not an exhaustive list and R&D Funding will provide a more comprehensive list, search under award type studentship.
Where can I search for funding for conference attendance?
The Division of Health Psychology offers a number of student bursaries for our own annual conference. Full details of these awards can be found on the conference website, see links from the conference information on this site.
The Division of Health Psychology does not provide funding for attendance at any other conferences. It is worth contacting organisers of other conferences to see if they provide bursaries. Often reduced rates or bursaries will be available for students or those on low incomes. Other than that some organisations will offer awards which include conference attendance. Criteria for these vary massively and you are advised to search from a site such as R&D Funding and select award type seminars and conferences.
Can you put me in contact with health psychologists with research interests similar to mine? The best way to make contact with other researchers in your area would be to send a mail shot around our DHP announcements list. Members of the DHP can join the DHP Announcements mail list. To do this send a blank email to subscribe-dhp-announce@lists.bps.org.uk To provide material for circulation, please cotact Diana Harcourt.
What kind of jobs do health psychologists do?
The DHP recently conducted a survey of the current employment of health psychologists within the UK. Further examples of jobs health psychologists do can be seen on our training pages.
