PhD Studentships

The studentships advertised here are specifically receptive to applications from the Health Psychology field. There are many other studentships available at other institutions however and this is by no means meant to reflect all of current PhD studentships available.

Screening for diabetes in dental settings- fully funded (EU/home) 3 year, full time PhD studentship available at King’s College London

Screening for diabetes has been shown to be an effective means of identifying the disease before it progresses and hence limiting the amount of complications developed and subsequent morbidity. The present study will examine the feasibility of screening for diabetes in dental settings using self-report and blood test methods. The usefulness of psychological models of behaviour change in predicting screening attendance will also be evaluated.

A 3-year full time PhD studentship is available to support this research. The project will be based at King’s College London Dental Institute and will be supervised by a team of health psychologists and dental practitioners. The studentship consists of MPhil/PhD fees (EU/Home rate) in addition to a stipend of £15,000 per year, for three years.

Applications by way of CV and an 1-page letter expressing interest are invited from Psychology, Medical, Dentistry or Nursing graduates with a good first degree (at least 2.1). A relevant postgraduate qualification (e.g. MSc in Health Psychology) and / or experience in this area, would be advantageous.

If you would like more information about this project, please contact Dr. Koula Asimakopoulou, King’s College London, Dental Institute, Unit of Social and Behavioural Sciences, Denmark Hill Campus, London, SE5 9RW, tel: 0203 299 3481 (koula.asimakopoulou@kcl.ac.uk).

Deadline for receipts of expression of interest 17th February 2012.
