This event is the first in a series of three seminar days devoted to psychological issues in men’s health, funded by the British Psychological Society. Men’s health is said to be in crisis, a situation popularly linked to ‘masculinity’, yet we know relatively little about men’s perspectives and practices related to health, lifestyle and embodiment. This first seminar brings together specialist researchers and has a focus on men’s health-related behaviours such as diet, physical exercise, smoking and alcohol consumption. In particular, the relevance of masculinity will be considered regarding constraints on (and facilitating) men’s health practices.
Programme
"The relationship between masculinity and health behaviours: A multiple regression analysis" - Dr Claire Sloan (Psychologist, IAPT programme, Sutton and Merton PCT)
"Men, ageing and health" - Dr Ilkka Pietila (University of Tampere, Finland)
