RESEARCH ASSISTANT OR RESEARCH ASSOCIATE ON PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND OBESITY RISK (Ref 380) Applications are sought for a full-time Research Assistant (UCL Grade 6) or Research Associate (UCL Grade 7) with a background in physical activity research to work in the Diet and Obesity Research Group in the Health Behaviour Research Centre. The post involves assisting with physical activity data collection and management, contributing to data analysis, preparing reports for publication and participating in developing new grant applications. The successful applicant will join a large team (3 senior researchers, 5 post-docs, 1 research assistant, 2 PhD students) working on studies in eating behaviour, physical activity and weight. This interdisciplinary post will give an excellent opportunity to publish research papers. Applicants should have postgraduate training in epidemiology, public health, psychology or sports science, proficiency in collecting and analysing subjective and objective physical activity data, and experience in writing for publication. Stage 1 includes written examination papers and a research dissertation. Stage 2 primarily involves undertaking structured supervised practice. Chief Assessor (Stage 2 Qualification) The Board of Assessors in Health Psychology is looking for a Chief Assessor for the Society's Stage 2 Qualifications in Health Psychology. We would particularly like to hear from Chartered Health Psychologists who have experience of supervision and/ or assessment at the postgraduate level. Experience of the practice and management of assessment procedures would be an advantage. The role of the Assessors is to consider portfolios of work submitted by Stage 2 candidates following their structured supervised practice. The Board of Assessors in Health Psychology would like to hear from interested parties who are Chartered Health Psychologists with experience of assessment at postgraduate level. The Publicity and Liaison Sub-Committee of the Division of Health Psychology is seeking specialists in any area of health psychology for inclusion on the list of specialist knowledge commentators. This is a panel of DHP members who are consulted by the Chair of Consultation and Specialist Knowledge to comment on calls for consultations from health-related initiatives. The Division is frequently asked to comment on such initiatives related to health policy, promotion, education, and research. These calls are usually issued by governmental services such as the National Health Service (NHS) or Department of Health (DoH), independent organisations responsible for standards in health, such as the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE), independent reports compiled on behalf of the government (e.g., the Cooksey review of UK Health Research), and even international organisations such as the World Health Organisation (WHO). The Chair of Consultation and Specialist Knowledge to co-ordinates responses on behalf of the Division and will contact specialists asking them to comment on the content of the call and its implications for practice and research in health psychology. These responses are important to Division whose remit is to represent the interests of health psychology professionals in the UK. Members on the list will gain useful first-hand knowledge of recent health issues relevant to health psychologists and will be providing an important service to health psychology in the UK. Members’ contributions are acknowledged in the responses made to the BPS and the organisation making the call.
