Stage 2 Supervisor Information

A new set of FAQs have just been published which aim to address some of the common queries that students and supervisors have when setting up the supervisory relationship. There is also a template supervision contract.

"In response to requests for more information about Stage Two from both candidates and supervisors, the Board of Assessors is pleased to make available an FAQ file which I will update as and when appropriate. In addition a sample contract of training is now available to assist those engaged in the Stage Two process" Dr Mark Forshaw, Chief Supervisor and Registrar of the Board of Assessors in Health Psychology

BOARD OF ASSESSORS IN HEALTH PSYCHOLOGY

Call for Stage 2 Supervisors

The Board of Assessors in Health Psychology and the Chief Supervisor would like to hear from interested parties who are Chartered Health Psychologists with experience of University/NHS supervision at postgraduate level (see below). Experience of workplace supervision, consultancy and teaching are desirable.

Details of the role of supervisors in the Stage 2 Qualification can be found in the Stage 2 regulations. These can be downloaded from the BPS website at http://www.bps.org.uk/careers/society_qual/health.cfm. Application should be made by cv (no more than 4 sides of A4 giving the names of 2 referees) to the Chief Supervisor (Health Psychology) at BPS Head Office or by email to M.J.Forshaw@Staffs.ac.uk. A covering letter should clearly set out how the applicant believes that they meet the criteria outlined below. Informal enquires can be made to Mark Forshaw 01782 294661, email M.J.Forshaw@Staffs.ac.uk. Successful entrants to the supervisors list will be required to attend a half-day training workshop.

Formal research supervision will normally be regulated by the higher education institution to which the applicant is affiliated and will typically involve dissertation/project supervision at masters or doctoral level although there may be some exceptions where, for example, research skills form a major component of a coursework assessment. However, we recognise that in some situations applicants may wish to make the case for experience of more informal supervisory arrangements e.g. supervision of professional psychologists in training. Evidence should therefore be provided on the frequency and quality of the supervision and outcomes.

Person Specification
This is a specification of the qualifications, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities that are required to effectively carry out the responsibilities of the post (as outlined above) and forms the basis for selecting a candidate. Applicants will be normally required to provide evidence in the cv (see above) to support ALL of the essential and TWO of the desirable role specifications.
